Elementary teachers understand the importance of social and emotional learning that involves developing competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Sanford Harmony compliments primary classrooms, as the everyday practices of Meet Up and Buddy Up easily fit into daily schedules and can be integrated throughout the curriculum. Teachers enjoy the flexibility of Harmony and refer to the teacher kit as their “treasure box” of social-emotional learning activities.
Through Meet Up, children gather to establish, practice, and celebrate Harmony goals, and engage in activities to build communication, collaboration, and a supportive learning community. Buddy Up provides ongoing opportunities to work and play with new peers.
The Z and Friends storybooks and accompanying thematic lessons encourage children to solve everyday problems, and help them develop interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships. Students reflect on their own emotions and are encouraged to understand how others feel and react to different situations.
